Happy Spring!

I love spring in Colorado! One day we wake up to this:

And the next day it is 65 and sunny.

I think its great. I will admit that now that I have Jared I appreciate a nice day where we can go on a walk more then I used to but as most of you know I am also not a fan of summer and hope that we have lots of nice rainstorms like last year.

So next week is Jared's first Easter but we are kicking off the festivities a little early.

If we lived elsewhere (or if Easter was a bit later) I would have loved to take these pictures outside but the grass is an unattractive yellow-brown color and currently still has spots of icy snow on it so fortunately our couch is green.

We are going to an Easter Egg hunt on Tuesday with our ward and are going to dye some Easter Eggs. I just couldn't wait to put up these pictures once I took them because I think they are adorable and not too embarrassing.

And the verdict is...

Saturday I spent the morning making baby food. (Sweet potato and carrots pictured above and today acorn and butternut squash for next week) I don't sew or scrapbook, or grind my own wheat and make my own bread but I did feel like I could make baby food so I did. And it made me feel really good about myself. I made it in preparation for the big day, which was yesterday.

We got the chair, I liked it because it has this cute tray that he can play with while I get food ready and then you just pop it out when you are ready to feed him.

*Please note my impressive skills: feeding Jared left handed (I am right handed and not really ambidextrous) and getting the picture ready. Thank goodness for digital cameras.

DELICIOUS!
I think that Jared really liked it that or he was happy to be done or glad he was eating something different then rice cereal. It was fun to see how curious he was. I actually gave him a little bit off my fingertip on Saturday so Mark could see his initial reaction. His face was great but I was not ready and did not have the camera but this will do. Jared is five months old now and fabulous!

5 months!

In just a few days Jared will be 5 months old! He is growing up so fast. I was talking to a friend today and she commented on how fun the first year is because they change so much. I totally agree. I love watching Jared play and learn how to do new things.
So lately Jared has been coming really close to sitting up on his own. And today he did it long enough for me to get a picture of him.

He doesn't have the best posture, but neither do I, baby steps...

Obviously he can't stand on his own but he looked so cute in his little overalls, like such a little boy so I had to take a picture. I love that now when I take pictures of him I don't even have to try to get him to smile. He is such a happy boy.

Rice cereal anyone?

So Jared has been eating rice cereal for about 2 weeks now and seems to really like it. I think he especially likes it now because he has discovered that when he makes his cute noises with a mouthful of rice cereal it flies all over the place. I love hearing his little noises but don't particularly love rice cereal all over myself.

I love chunky baby thighs! Since its winter Jared always has pants on but his legs are so cute! This was after yesterday's laughing/sputtering while eating. We have to clean out many rice cereal boogers.

I realized yesterday that I hadn't taken any pictures of Jared and me since Christmas so today I decided to learn how to use the oh so convenient timer on our camera. I could just wait for Mark to get home and have him take them but this way I can take as many pictures as I want and not annoy Mark. I often have an image in my head of how I want the picture to look so I make Mark take the picture over and over and over and understandably this starts to get old. I feel like Mark and I actually have pretty decent communication skills I just haven't perfected how to explain the images to him so hopefully this will help.

Jared was being quite patient as well, such an all star! He does look kind of suspicious of the blinking light on the little black thing aka the camera.

* Do you see the cute wall hanging in the back by the door? (well, the bottom half of it) My sister Susanna made it for me and even though Valentines day (and February...) are over I might just leave it up because I love it! She is making me one for each month and I love them. Thanks Sister.
