Since Mark would not have students we decided to meet him at his school for lunch. Back in Colorado Springs we visited Mark at his school a lot but it hasn't happened as much here. We live so much farther from his school, Jared is in school and I'm teaching preschool, it just doesn't work out. They both love going to his classroom so it was nice we could go eat with him. After lunch we took my Mom on the free trolley downtown and got the actual trolley bus so it was extra fun. Jared picked a seat at the front and stayed there the whole ride while Lydia jump around from seat to seat. Well, from my seat, to my Mom's and then to Jared's. She loves moving around whenever we ride the trolley. It had been awhile since we had and it was a great outing since Mark's school is so close to downtown.
The original plan was to eat the leftover ice cream cake that night after her birthday dinner of fettuccini but I sadly left it out overnight on the counter so of course it turned into a puddle. We ended up stopping for a McDonald's soft serve on the way home for her birthday treat and she was more then satisfied.

Lydia is at that fun age where she is learning so much. This year she learned to swim, ride her bike and read. She has really picked up reading and now just needs to practice sight words more. She wants to read which makes all the difference. She still loves being read to and it is my favorite thing to do with her. She loves counting by 5's and 10's and making and sending cards to people. She loves to draw pictures too and hates to throw any scrap of paper she has written, drawn or colored on. This leads to "disagreements" between her and I and she often has a stack or her artwork on her dresser, or behind it so I won't see it and throw it away. She will often ask me if we can go buy a gift for someone, she is a great example to me of thinking of others.
92% of the time she is very caring, thoughtful, loving and sweet. She loves to give and receive hugs and lately thinks giving kisses is pretty fun. She is a really agreeable child which is so nice, she is just pleasant to be around. Other times (but not too often) she is whiny and needy and stubborn. She is following form and being as Mark described it "a stinker" the past little while. I have noticed that she goes through this weird unpleasant 10 days to 2 weeks right before and after her birthday. She did it at 3, 4, and now 5. She stops asking for things nicely and being as caring and thoughtful. It's really odd. Thankfully it does pass and she goes back to her standard happy self. She loves all of us in her family but is a definite daddy's girl. She so looks forward to Mark getting home. She loves to play with Jared and will often play what he wants so she can play with him. I think they get along as well as they do because she is so willing to do what he wants. They really are god buddies which makes me super happy. She loves preschool but also likes and needs alone time. Sometimes if the environment is too crazy for her she wants to just have a few minutes to herself. (I totally get that) She does not like to be alone yet is great at independent play and loves it when we go to the basement together so I can do preschool work while she plays. She seems to have a harder time settling down at night to go to sleep than Jared ever did but I think she just needs less sleep than him. She stays in her room, mostly in her bed but often when we look at her bed in the morning she has books and other miscellaneous items in there that were not there when we said goodnight. She is not afraid of the dark but prefers her door open and our bedroom door open too. She loves to sing, is often skipping or jumping instead of walking and has a fun imagination.
I will miss her more than I can say when she goes to school next year and have been so sad that her last year before full time school was such a busy and more stressful one for me. We are so happy Lydia is part of our family!
